The people of his constituency had access to contact him anytime with any problem, which made him a favourite among the people. At that time, the Congress was highly influential in rural Gujarat. In his initial two years, the BJP achieved success in Legislative Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand and Assam but lost ground in Delhi and the large eastern state of Bihar in 2015. In 2017, he was partly credited with the party victories in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Manipur. The mission was accomplished under his leadership as party president cementing BJP undisputed king of India’s political terrain. In the 2019 General Elections, he contested from the Gandhinagar Constituency in Gujarat and defeated Congress candidate CJ Chavda by a margin of 5,57,014 votes.
